Family reunification allows foreign nationals to bring their closest relatives to Switzerland. The legal basis is the Foreign Nationals and Integration Act (FNIA, in particular Art. 42–52) and, for protected persons, the Asylum Act (AsylA).
In practice, the success of an application depends less on the legal provision than on the completeness of the documents submitted, compliance with tight deadlines, and the proper translation and apostille of foreign-language documents.
